I remember about a year ago, Joey , then in 5th grade, wanted to have
a friend over after school. I picked them up from school. I had asked
the dad if the little boy if he could show me the way to his house
once we were back at school. The boy was a walker and walked home from
school as it was anyway. The dad said he did not think so. Now thus
confused me, but it turns out one of the parents always picked him up.
But still I thought he should know the 3 blocks home from school or at
the very least his neighborhood. But when I took him him home, he
really didn't know how to point ne to his house just through a few
turns. Thankfully I had the address and gps.
Why am I mentioning this? Well, Serenity is in kindergarten. Even last
year, she would ask me why we were going down this road if we were
going home when it was the road to go __fill in the blank__. So today
we had errands to run in town. After the bank, she thought we were
going home. But we needed to stop at another store. She started to
tell me how I had missed the road to head home. I decided to put her
to the test. I had her direct me home from Wawa. You know, she knew
every turn to make, where the stop signs were and the red lights.
Serenity even instructed me not to hit the lady crossing the street,
and to stop at the red light, lol. I was so impressed. This is a
little girl and she was giving me step by step instructions to our
house. It just made me so happy she knew it. Almost as if she could be
with a friend's parent and know how to show them to bring her home.
Anyway, just a proud mommy moment!

That is great! I think more children need to be aware of their surroundings. It has been very hard to try and get my 12 year old stepson to pay attention to what is going on around him. Sounds like little girl already has it down pat. - Kimberlee
